"Wow. Scarily young upstarts with a clutch of brilliant songs" NME

"Mightily fusing frantic ping-pong vocals with 80s synth pop sounds whilst jerking out rhythm from every angle, tonight Manchester's The Headlines are clearly, um, headlining... and truly deserving of it."

The Fly

"Headlines have come on leaps and bounds over just this year, and tonight they're even to the point of striking. Stronger, more vibrant melodies and a casting aside of frustrations, their spring is now so nearly enough to push them to another level. High Voltage

"For a band with more raging hormones than an episode of Byker Grove, this is a remarkably polished single......passionate, memorable indie pop that makes most teenage bands look like floppy-fringed underachievers." Is This Music?

Headlines look just like five nineteen-year-olds from Manchester but these lads have the tunes and the talent unmatched by any of their contemporaries. For a real comparison of their brand of indie pop you need to look further than the Automatic, the Cribs or of Montreal, back through the fog of C86 to the ghosts of Russell Mael, The Ramones, XTC and even Klaus Nomi. With Derek Nimmo hairmops, amazingly tight jeans and live performances to die for - this is "retro" in the rocket-propelled sense.
